For 80% of my life I have chased a dream I thought was my everything. Only to find out, I was chasing someone else’s dream. So I packed up my life, rededicated my life to Christ, closed my eyes and took a leap of faith.
My leap of faith led me to “Confidently Dreaming”.
Why The Title?
It’s all about the quote! Which happens to be my favorite by Henry David Thoreau.
“I learned this, at least, by my experiment; that if one advances confidently in the direction of his dreams, and endeavors to live the life which he has imagined, he will meet with a success unexpected in common hours. . . . In proportion as he simplifies his life, the laws of the universe will appear less complex, and solitude will not be solitude, nor poverty poverty, nor weakness weakness.”
For most of my life, I have recited Mr. Thoreau daily to justify chasing my personal dreams, but the meaning behind the quote changed when I surrendered myself to God.
Some people will tell you early in your journey, “You’ve changed” when you become narrowly focused on God’s purpose for your life, but I have to disagree with them. When we submit ourselves, God takes what’s beautiful and unique in each of us and enhances it for His AND our enjoyment. With that being said, I am still the dedicated, driven, goal-oriented analyst I’ve always been and I still recite Henry David Thoreau on a daily basis, but the end game is not about me anymore. It’s about HIM.
Let’s be honest though! Life is hard, and it doesn’t get any easier when you refocus everything on God. I have experienced many ups and downs, but I can say that I am a much stronger person today than I was yesterday. If this is your first journey with God, or maybe your re-attempt at a journey with God (like me), please know that it will be scary, challenging and all of the above. However, the “breakthrough” moment when you finally figure out why you were put on this earth – will be beyond words. One for the books!
So this blog is my attempt at recording my journey. Each entry is my interpretation of…
the events in my life,
the Bible I study,
the life goals I achieve,
and the knowledge I’ve learned to share with others.
I hope my words ignite a passion in you to hang on during the hard times, follow Christ through it all and confidently chase your dreams!
